NUWARD is the EDF Group’s subsidiary dedicated to development and deployment of its NUWARD SMR. The company is developing a new small-scale modular reactor which will complement EDF’s range of nuclear power plant offers, in order to meet the growing worldwide demand for controllable and carbon-free power generation facilities.

The project, combines cutting-edge innovation developed through the extensive knowledge and expertise of the best industrial partners in France (CEA, Technicatome, Framatome, Naval Group) and in Europe (Tractebel). You will report to the NUWARD SMR Project Qualification and Test Manager, and be in charge of leading activities associated with application of thermal hydraulic related computer codes and scientific methods.

YOUR MISSION

  • Lead the development programme of safety demonstration study methods by ensuring their adequacy within the design and study rules of the NUWARD SMR project ;
  • Establish and manage the methods and computer codes development and validation programme to meet the requirements of the SMR NUWARD product;
  • Identify the test needs necessary to validate methods and computer codes, contributing to their specification and performance monitoring;
  • Understand, interrogate and validate the support documentation for methods and computer codes;
  • Contribute to the instruction of these methods and computer codes by the relevant Nuclear Safety Authorities (French and other as required).

 

Job based in Lyon with frequent travel to other EDF sites (Paris, Tours) and to partner engineering sites (TechnicAtome in Aix-en-Provence, Naval Group in Nantes, CEA in Cadarache, Framatome in Lyon).

Profile

Responsibilities of the post

You will have extensive knowledge of or experience in:

  • The thermal hydraulics of Pressurised Water Reactors (PWRs) including their design;
  • Use and validation of applicable computer codes (CATHARE, RELAP, GOTHIC etc.);
  • Study methods used for nuclear safety demonstration;
  • Leading multidisciplinary activities.

Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
